Compression stocking
Most of the varicose veins are treated with certain lifestyle changes and without the involvement of medicines. This is the first step and the preferred way of varicose treatment. Along with the changes doctors sometimes prescribe the use of compression stockings. These stockings are used from light to severe varicose veins treatment.
The compression stockings are used to reduce the swelling that can happens after a blood clot has developed in the legs. The compression stockings are worn on the legs from the ankle to little above the knees. They are sometimes rolled down below the knees according to the situations and the patients’ comforts.
The compression stocking are worn to create pressure on the legs thus these stockings are made in a way that they are tight on the area of the ankle and they become lose as they move up the legs, this creates just the needed pressure on the legs.
There are three types of compression stocking, each of them used according to the severity of the varicose veins.
The first type is the support pantyhose compression stocking which offers the least amount of pressure. This one is used in normal varicose veins treatment.
The second type of compression stocking is the over-the-counter compression hose. This compression stocking provides a little more pressure on the legs as compared to the pantyhose compression hose. Over-the-counter compression hose are made available on the medical stores and pharmacies and they can be acquired from there.
The third type of compression hose is the prescription-strength compression which is used for severe cases of varicose veins. It exerts a lot of pressure on the legs and is made available on the medical stores and pharmacies. This type of compression stocking is available only on the base of prescription and it needs specially trained persons to fit them on the patients.
